About the Author
Alice Corbett Fiacco was born at home in Watervliet, New York, in 1930, to Mary Duffy Corbett and Watervliet Fire Chief James J. Corbett. Growing up outside of Troy, New York, during the Great Depression and World War II, within a close-knit family in a community of fellow Roman Catholic Irish-Americans, she learned early on the importance of family, faith, love, and self-determination. The decades of her life spent as wife of an insurance salesman, mother to seven boys, homemaker, Scouting and School and Church Volunteer, sometime outside-the-home employee and, ultimately, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, has provided the joy and meaning she has found in her life. Forty years have passed from her earliest note-taking at the kitchen table as her mother (who died in 1975) regaled family and friends with stories about life in Troy in the early 1900’s, progressed to researching the period in the Troy Public Library, and on to finishing the novel whose title is the author’s assessment of how each one of us perceives life: “Thru The Eyes of The Beholder.”

Great Historical Novel

This is a sweet, lovely piece of historical fiction full of interesting characters and great insights. It's a great journey back in time and contains a lot of specific history. But the stories it colorfully tells contain many timeless life lessons and deep human emotions. If you enjoy historical novels full of interesting, sensitive, compelling characters, you will love this book!
